Outreach

Santa Rita High School Mentoring Program: URIC services the community by working with Santa Rita High School's welding students. We provide instruction and hands on experience to the students in our shop twice a week. This includes the basics of heliarc welding. In 2004, one of the students was awarded 2nd place in the statewide VICA competition.

In addition, our Cryogenics & Gas Facility donates nitrogen to the Tucson Children's Museum, UA Physics Bus, UA Physics Phun Night as well as various elementary school demonstrations.

Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering's Jonova Motor: URIC assisted AME undergraduate students by machining the prototype Jonova Motor which is an affordable rotary engine with only two moving parts. The students won Best Overall Project at the Engineering Design Day, 2005.

Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering's Solar Car: URIC donated labor and materials to help build the Daedalus Solar car.
